Dear Abercrombie,
With reference to your letter of
30th January about harbour craft at Hong Kong I can only say that, quite apart from the question of reinforcement, we had assumed that as some of the craft originated from Admiralty sources the Admiralty would have an interest in the settlement referred to in paragraph 4 of the Governor's savingram No.992.
The correspondence was therefore copied to you and the other Service Departments in order to ascertain whether you had any objection to the proposed compromise. May I assume that the Admiralty are not interested?
